502 Vineyards – Boutique Turkish Wines from Gümüşhacıköy

Located in Gümüşhacıköy, a historic town in Northern Anatolia, 502 Vineyards is one of Türkiye’s rising stars in the world of craft wine. The winery was founded by Mert Atay and Rifaa Wais with a vision to revive native Turkish grape varieties using natural methods and minimal intervention.

At the heart of their work is Merzifon Karası, a red grape indigenous to the region. You’ll also find Dişi Mercan, an extremely rare white grape vinified for the very first time by 502. These Turkish wines are made using wild fermentation, aged in French oak or stainless steel, and produced in limited quantities.

Must-try Turkish wines from 502 Vineyards:

  • Merzifon Karası (oak-aged red)

  • Dişi Mercan (stainless-steel aged white)

  • Merzifon Karası Rosé (fresh and fruit-forward)

If you're looking for artisan Turkish wines with a deep sense of place, 502 Vineyards is essential.

Vinkara – Elevating Native Turkish Grapes with Modern Craft

Based in Kalecik, Ankara, Vinkara is a well-known name in the Turkish wine scene and a leader in the promotion of native Turkish grape varieties. Combining innovation with respect for tradition, Vinkara’s wines are clean, elegant, and expressive.

Their flagship grape is Kalecik Karası, often compared to Pinot Noir for its light body and vibrant fruit character. They also work with Narince, a floral and citrusy white, and Hasandede, one of Anatolia’s most historic yet overlooked grapes.

Vinkara practices low-intervention winemaking and produces some of the best Turkish wines for both everyday drinking and special occasions.

Top Turkish wines from Vinkara:

  • Kalecik Karası Reserve

  • Narince (unoaked and barrel-aged)

  • Hasandede (rare white grape revival)

For anyone exploring the diversity of Turkish wines, Vinkara offers outstanding quality and consistency.

Mesashuna – Natural Qvevri Wines from the Eastern Black Sea

For lovers of natural wine and ancient winemaking, Mesashuna Winery is a hidden gem. Located in Borçka, Artvin, Mesashuna is Türkiye’s first registered winery in the Eastern Black Sea and is deeply influenced by neighboring Georgian wine culture.

Mesashuna uses only qvevri — large clay vessels buried underground — to ferment and age their wines. They follow the “Nothing In / Nothing Out” philosophy, meaning no additives, no sulfites, and no filtration. The result? Authentic, raw, and terroir-driven Turkish natural wines.

Their wines are made from two of the most important grapes in the Caucasus region:

  • Saperavi (red, bold, earthy)

  • Rkatsiteli (white/orange, structured, aromatic)

If you’re looking for natural Turkish wines made in the ancient qvevri tradition, Mesashuna should be on your radar.

Signature Mesashuna Wines:

  • Long Macerated Saperavi

  • Short Macerated Saperavi

  • Long Macerated Rkatsiteli

  • Short Macerated Rkatsiteli

These wines are rare, wild, and speak to the roots of winemaking in Anatolia.
